Just another typical day at the office, except for two things. Its Thursday, and its payday! The significance of Thursday is disco night at the casino, and for some odd reason it draws a big crowd. Providing my roommate doesn’t have to work and I have a wingman, I will proceed to get annihilated and try to avoid becoming “Old Lady Lunch” to some cougar hyped up on Vicodin (they can get fiesty when provoked).
Until my dreams of “disco disco” can come true, I am stuck at my desk trying not to rip my hair out because not only is Jonathan and Chris still away, but now Jason is out till Monday and that leaves me here alone with no one to fuck off with. Sad. It’s days like this that I wish someones infrastructure would just buckle before them, and we would need to repair it …but then again I would hate myself later for even thinking like that.
We made it! Well we made it last night. Got to our Hotel rooms by 8:30pm and it was sweet. Its the same hotel that Paul and I stayed in last time so I have a pretty good idea where everything is. And the good times have already started. We get to our hotel and immediately drop our bags off and head off to get us some Argentinian Mixed Grill. Hells yeah. Best chicken and ribs I’ve ever had (having never been to Texas), though the steak skewers were only so-so. Second stop is The Grasshopper. Its a coffee shop. We smoked there. But there’s more.

First things first. My apologies for the lack of a new post in the last couple of days. Things have been very busy. “All work and no play” you know how the rest goes. Paris was a whirlwind and we had to work our asses off here. Couldn’t find the data centers initially, couldn’t ask for directions because we don’t speak French and the cab driver who just dropped us off in the middle of a business park because he couldn’t fathom how his GPS could possible be wrong.
Regardless to say things did not go according to plan. Wrong types of reported servers onsite means we shipped the wrong parts which means we can’t really fix anything other than hard drive failures. Two locations means we have to split time between one data center open from 9-5 and another that’s open 24×7. Every mapping service we could get our hands on plotted the addresses wrong on a map. Also had to rack 8 servers and wire them for Ethernet and power – that was fun. We did the best we could with what we were given but we’ve been batting a thousand for so long that it feels pretty shitty when you fall below getting everything fixed.
We had no time to do anything really in France. We flew in Sunday night, slept, worked all day Monday, got back to the hotel at around 10pm, slept and now we’re getting ready to go to the airport. No Eiffel tower stops, no French berets, do not pass go, do not collect 200 Euros and when the shit do we come home.
Next stop Amsterdam. Maybe. We are flying Air France and according to their website right now their pilots are on strike. Perfect. I guess we’ll see what happens when we get to the airport. Until then good luck. We may not be in touch much while in Amsterdam because we have a lot of work to do and we’ll probably be “intoxicated” for the rest of it.
P.S. If you own Gears of War 2 let me know. I can’t wait to play this beast when I get home.
