Amsterdamn …

November 22nd, 2008 by Jonathan

The second night in Amsterdam was nice. The best thing about Amsterdam is that the data center where we were working is only open to 5pm. So regardless of how much work still needs to get done we have to be out of there by 5pm. Which means that we have a finite starting point to start off the evening. Now its hard to top the fun times Paul and I had the last time we were in Amsterdam. But we sure tried.

Amsterdam is awesome. Beers and coffeeshops and more beers. Oh and redlight districts and hot women wearing bathing suites in shop windows begging you to have sex with them. Chris had never been to Amsterdam before and had never seen a redlight district before. We were going to change that. We went to a couple bars and got liquored up. We then walked the red light district and took a look at the pleasures of the flesh. But there are also a lot of shady dudes in those areas. We were asked probably about 20 times if we wanted to buy ecstasy or coke. We were also asked about 100 times if we had some spare change. At one point we told this guy no and he smashed a beer bottle at our feet. Oh, then there was this guy that said the best time to hit up the red light district is between 7:30 and 8:00pm because, “Their jaws aren’t sore yet”.

After the redlight district we wanted to find a place close to our hotel to get more beers (by close we mean close to the coffeeshop that is next to our hotel). I forget the exact name of the place we went to (I think it may have been “sluggers”) but it advertised beers and babes. It looked like an Amsterdam equivalent to Hooters. We go in and have a couple of beers and notice that they use the term “babes” lightly. But it’s alright because we have 6 or 8 Heinekens off the draft and feel pretty good. Now draft Heineken is much better than the bottled stuff we have in the US and higher alcohol percentage. We get drunk and stare at not-that-hot waitresses. However, over the course of the next hour we discuss how there probably aren’t that many hot waitresses because all the hot ones are sex workers.

Well its a school night and about 11pm so we decide we probably should head back so we are not too drunk or hung over to get to the data center at a respectible time. And by head back I mean we went to the coffeeshop. Then we went to bed. It was pretty fun.

No we didn’t do any of the crazy shit that Paul and I did last time but we still had fun. It was the perfect end to a trip that we were ready to be finished with.
